Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Isaiah 6:8

Why pray and fast during Sept 28th to Oct 4th? “Is this not the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens and to let the oppressed go free? and that ye break every yoke?” Isaiah 58:6. Throughout the Bible, fasting was an important part of the believer’s life. God’s people often prayed and fasted when they wanted to seek God’s will, ask for His forgiveness or faced difficult times. Who among us can deny that our nation is in very, very difficult times?
We should not believe nor accept that God is finished with America.

The founders of our nation believed that God made a covenant with them concerning America. We were the New Jerusalem, a Shining City on a hill. If a thousand years is as a single day, (Psalm 90:4) then is not the covenant only a few hours old?

Has God forgotten his Word? Or has the church, once again, fallen asleep?

Should we be surprised that America has left the Godly principles it was founded upon, when the American church has need of nothing and left it’s first love (Rev. 2:4)? Yes, the church has no lack of programs, and we have had our “Marches on Washington,” Jesus festivals and concerts, (all fine, of themselves) but do we have His presence and the anointing that destroys the yoke? (Isaiah 10:27)

Leonard Ravenhill, an evangelist from England, once said we don’t have revival
because we are willing to live without it. Do we really want revival?

The call is simple! Bring together those people who are called by His Name; Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostal, Presbyterian and other denominations for 7 days of seeking the Lord through prayer and fasting!

What is our purpose for this week of prayer and fasting?
1. To humble ourselves and seek forgiveness of sins.
2. To bring restoration and healing to individuals and families.
3. To bring revival to our church, our city and our nation.

Can it really make any difference? “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land.” II Chron. 7:14. If you are called by His Name, you qualify!

Remember, judgment will begin with the church, (I Peter 4:17), but Jesus stands at the door and knocks (Rev. 3:20). “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Matt: 11:15

What should our attitude be? “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Heb 11;6. We are coming in faith, humble and believing God. Believing He forgives sins (1 John 1:9), exalts the humble (James 4:10) and resists the proud (James 4:6).

What are we agreeing to? To fast and pray for the week of Sept 28 to Oct 4, beginning Sunday morning and ending the following Saturday evening.

Each church is free to organize their fast as the Lord leads. Posting a sign-up sheet in the church lobby where individuals or families can volunteer for certain times or days works well. Each participating church should hold a prayer service during the week and encourage their members to pray often throughout the week for our nation and as the Lord leads. Try to have each week day covered by the fast, as possible, whether by few or many.

By few or many? Yes. Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matt. 18:20.

Some other suggestions. Even if some are unable to fast, all can pray! Pray for those who have special needs. “For with God, nothing shall be impossible.” Luke 1: 37. This is a time to make things right, not just with God, but, perhaps with your neighbor, family member or co worker. So if you are presenting your gift at the altar and remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift before the altar and first go and be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” Matt 5;23-24.

Also, “He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse.” Malachi 4:6.

“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” Hosea 10:12

A final thought. This week is not meant as an end unto itself, but rather, the beginning of something new.

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19
